Description: Sadie
6yr old Australian Shep mix

Sadie is a 6-year-old Australian Shepherd mix who is looking for a rather specific adopter. Sweet Sadie is scared of the world. Once she warms up to you and is familiar with your household noises and routines, she is wonderful. She is a great cuddler – at times a stage-one clinger. She loves wholeheartedly. She is great with other dogs and doesn't mind cats. She is housetrained and doesn't need a crate. The couch is her safe space and is where she spends much of her day when her foster mom is at work. She is not destructive and can be trusted to behave. She is a good passenger on road trips, but needs help being brave to get in the car.

Here's the hard part...Sadie feels safest around women and would do best in a female-only home. She is uncomfortable around men, to the point that she can become fear-reactive. We are working on this with a trusted pool of male friends and volunteers, but at this time a female-only home is what she needs. She may be okay with younger teen boys, since she was fine with a 13-year-old boy she recently met. She is good with female visitors to the home. She would be happiest in a home without young children due to her being nervous of noises and quick movements. She thrives in a fenced backyard where she can stretch her legs and get her zoomies out. A townhouse yard would be too small for her, and since she’s currently not a fan of leashed walks, a secure backyard is a must for her. Unfortunately for this particular doggo, an apartment would not be suitable.

We know it may seem that this is a lot to ask for, but we think Sadie is worth it. She is a sweet girl who needs someone to help her with her fears and who will provide her with a safe environment where she can learn to trust and be the amazing girl she is. Sadie has had a rough start in life, but she is learning to navigate her world and feel safe in her skin. She looks to her canine foster sister for direction, and would do well with another dog in the home who could help build her confidence.

Sadie is spayed and microchipped. She has been vaccinated, dewormed, and treated with Simparica Trio.
