6month old Cocker spaniel/Poodle mix
***Mickey will require an experienced family that is willing to continue his behavioural training and understands that it will take time and will not be fixed overnight. Experience with Resource guarding is a must, as this is his biggest struggle.***
This delightful little nugget is a 6-month old cockapoo who is high energy, full of love, and cute as a button. His favorite activities include car rides, emptying his toy bucket, going on jaunty walks to explore the 'hood, and having crazy zoomies all over the yard. He's a curious, busy boy with tons of puppy energy to burn!
Mickey loves to meet new people, gets along great with other dogs and would be THRILLED to have a fur sibling of his very own, or lots of doggie playdates at the very least. He has not come across any cats yet, but does not appear to be highly prey-driven so it would likely be okay if you had one.
This little gentleman is perfectly house and crate-trained, food motivated, knows sit and down, is working on paw and stay, and will gallantly warn you when strangers approach or ring the bell, even if they're only on tv. You can never be too careful! He's a funny little dude who loves to jump up in your lap, or snuggle by your feet, and prefers the cool hard floor to a comfy dog bed.
However, he does have some issues that will require more intense training. He has already lived with two different families in his short life, and unfortunately neither was able to provide the level of support he needed to help him develop into the best canine companion he can be. As a result, he was surrendered to foster care, and he now finds himself once again without the stability of a permanent home.Â
So we are looking for a special family that is either very experienced with toy and food guarding behaviors, or willing to work with a positive reinforcement trainer. As mentioned, he gets along great with other dogs and has no problem sharing toys or treats, but for whatever reason, humans are another story. He will not tolerate any attempts to remove a toy or his food dish once in his possession. He is working on this in his foster home, and has been making slow and steady progress. But these behaviors are unpredictable and require time and patience, and as a result, he cannot be adopted into a family with children, or where children will visit on a regular basis. We want to make sure Mickey has every opportunity to overcome these setbacks and learn new, appropriate behaviors. Please only apply if you are committed to positive reinforcement training, are willing to consult a professional if deemed necessary, and have the time and patience to see Mickey through the challenges that lie ahead. We want this to truly be his "happily ever after", once and for all.
Mickey has been vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, neutered, treated with Advantage Multi and vet checked.
The adoption fee is $350 and includes spay/neuter (dogs over 6 months), vaccines, heartworm test (dogs over 6 months), deworming, Flea and tick prevention and microchip. Please visit www.paws-united.com to fill out an application.
**For puppies under 6 months a $100 spay/neuter rebate will be given with proof of spay/neuter certificate signed by a vet, if they have not been done prior to adoption.**
**Please note we DO NOT adopt our dogs as outdoor/farm dogs. These dogs are coming to us as stray, roaming or dogs that have lived a life tied to a chain. Our goal is to bring them in the house off the chain and give them a pampered indoor dogs lifestyle. Unless otherwise stated we will not even consider a home that has intentions of leaving our dogs outdoors or tied to a chain**
